A few years ago, I met Clint Rater from Jody Seabody and the Whirls. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of working with him and the band on a few different interviews and photoshoots.
This time around, the band asked me to take a few promotional photos for them, as they’re getting ready to tour in support of their new record, Hawksamillion, on Artificial Head Records.
Though I’ve never told the band this, I’ve been quietly calling this the “Jody Seabody 420 sesh” in my head. Because the band was on a schedule to get photos to their record label, we ended up getting together on Friday, April 20 after work to shoot these during golden hour on the Menil/Rothko Chapel grounds.
We had a lot of fun playing around with different ideas in front of different backdrops. One thing I love about these guys is that they’re always open to letting me play around with things during and after taking their portraits.
